Papa Het Tone Database

Ok, lets be such a fucking nerd about guitar tone for a little while. There is a lot of conflicting on what he used, so much of this information is gonna keep changing constantly as new information is discovered. The amp he used in the early days of the band was a Marshall JMP 2203 with a mod done by Jose Arredondo called the "Master Volume" mod. This is a very common mod which is the addition of a clipping circuit just after the cathode follower, and the placement of a master volume pot before the tone stack (EQ circuit and controls). Jose also may or may not have modded King Eddies superlead that he used on the first few Van Halen records to achive the brown sound. We know he had one modded by him, but we don't know if he used it or not. During this time he was using a ProCo Rat. The settings this pedal is unknown. He had Celestion V30s in his cabinets. Most iconically, he was using the Electra Flying Wedge. It is often confused for a Gibson Flying V, however Electra was a Japanese brand that made cheap knockoffs of other guitar brands (never underestimate these things. my knockoff 70s Les Paul is killer". At this time, it had a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge, AKA a fucking beast of a pickup. This setup was taken to New York at Megaforce Records HQ to record Kill Em All.
